Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE Program)
Healing hands. Caring hearts.
Texas Health Resources is one of the largest faith-based nonprofit healthcare systems in the U.S. and the largest in North Texas in terms of inpatients and outpatients served. Its mission is to improve the health of the people in the communities it serves. It has 24 acute care, transitional, rehabilitation and short-stay hospitals.
The Crystal Charity Ball funds will be used over two years to provide compassionate and comprehensive care at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas for adolescent victims of sexual assault. Of all sexual assault victims, 44% are under age 18. These young victims need immediate help, both to begin the healing process and to collect and preserve physical forensic evidence to aid with prosecution. Through the SANE program, victims are examined and treated in a secure and private suite of rooms within the Emergency Department, at any time of the day or night, by certified nurses trained to provide specialized and sensitive care. Funds will be used for salaries, certification training and community outreach. Approximately 130 adolescent victims ages 14 to 17 will be served over the two years.
