Salary Support for Five Additional Dallas CASA Supervisors
Expanding Resources Needed to Serve Children in Dallas County who are Victims of Abuse and Neglect and are Living in the Protective Care of the State of Texas
The Commitment: $916,458
Dallas CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) trains and supervises volunteers appointed by Dallas County court judges to advocate on behalf of child victims of abuse and neglect who are living in the protective care of the state. Dallas CASA volunteers cultivate caring connections with each child, provide written reports and oral testimony at court hearings about each child’s educational, medical, and therapeutic needs, and make recommendations in court about where each child can live safely and permanently. For the past six years, Dallas CASA provided volunteer advocates for 100% of child welfare cases assigned by Dallas County courts.
Crystal Charity will fund two years of salary support for five new Dallas CASA supervisors. These positions will help reduce each supervisor’s child welfare caseload and accommodate extra duties that Dallas CASA supervisors and volunteer advocates have taken on during the recent transition of Dallas County child welfare services to a private contractor. The new supervisors will enable Dallas CASA to continue accepting all Dallas County court appointments to child welfare cases and ensure advocacy for 2,000 children in each of the next two years.
